Army Gen. Jack Keane (left) presented the Aileses with their awards.

“Behind every successful man is a surprised wife,” Ailes joked as he began his remarks.

Last night’s event at the Pierre Hotel was emceed by FNC anchor Bill Hemmer. Various FoxNewsers were there including Shepard Smith, Bret Baier, Harris Faulkner, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Steve Doocy, Janice Dean. Megyn Kelly dropped by for the cocktail hour, so she could be back for “The Kelly File.”

“When President Kennedy helped form the Green Berets he knew that some day they’d be needed,” Ailes went on to say. “The values and principles that lead you to go in harm’s way willingly are unique American traits. The people in this room — particularly the Green Berets — have my greatest respect because they are prepared to risk everything for an idea, and that idea is called America.”

Elaine Howard, CEO of Gannett Government Media and Lieutenant General John Mulholland, Jr, former Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Command, were also honored.
