An industry insider wrote in to express surprise at Jon Klein‘s Category 4 = Viewership memo. “We have a responsibility as broadcasters to inform the public instead of creating ‘arresting’ lower thirds to scare the crap out of people. Jon Klein has managed to stick his foot in his mouth yet again and sink lower than anyone would imagine possible. Hyping this hurricane for ratings in the aftermath of an event like Katrina is a complete disgrace. How do they call themselves a news channel? Inside Edition would be more appropriate — even local news doesn’t resort to tactics as pathetic as these during times like this.”
