Report: Rupert Murdoch, Sons Agree ‘That Ailes Needs to Go’

By Mark Joyella

According to a report published by New York Magazine, Fox News chairman Roger Ailes may be presented with a choice of resigning or being fired–a direct result of the internal investigation underway at Fox after Ailes was sued for sexual harassment by former FNC host Gretchen Carlson.

Writer Gabriel Sherman cites unnamed sources inside the network who say Rupert Murdoch and his two sons, Lachlan and James, are agreed that Ailes will leave the network he created. The question is timing:

James Murdoch is said to be arguing that Ailes should be presented with a choice this week to resign or face being fired. Lachlan is more aligned with their father, who thinks that no action should be taken until after the GOP convention this week. Another source confirms that all three are in agreement that Ailes needs to go.

After Sherman’s story was published, he received this statement from 21st Century Fox: “This matter is not yet resolved and the review is not concluded.”
