The Boston Red Sox yesterday became the seventh Major League Baseball team to create both Spanish Twitter and Facebook accounts, an effort to reach Spanish-speaking fans who follow a team that fields 11 Spanish-speaking players. The Sox also created a web page, RedSox.com/beisbol, that includes translations of stories from MLB.com, video interviews with players, segments from “El Reporte De Los Red Sox,” the team’s official weekly Spanish-language television show, and cultural events, the Boston Herald reports.
“Taking this communication online was the next logical step” to reach Spanish-speaking fans, said Susan Goodenow, Red Sox senior vice president of public affairs and marketing.
As of this morning, the new Twitter account – @RedSoxBeisbol – had 633 followers, and the Facebook page had 168 “likes.”
