Reair Docs On Cable Often Enough, & Millions Of Viewers Will Eventually See Them

Cable is “picking up the slack” from broadcast and airing top-notch documentaries, CNBC VP Josh Howard tells USAT’s Peter Johnson.

The story notes that “documentaries on cable get a fraction of the audience that broadcast networks draw. But Howard says that by rerunning documentaries dozens of times on CNBC, millions of viewers eventually tune in: an estimated 10 million for the American Airlines documentary, for example.”

Wednesday’s premiere of CNBC’s “GameOn! The Unauthorized History of Video Games” averaged 138,000 demo viewers from 9 to 11pm, up 119 percent from the Q4-to-date average in the time period…
