Ray Rice Cut By the Ravens Following TMZ Release of Elevator Video

At 4amET this morning, TMZ posted a video showing Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice knocking out his fiancee Janay Palmer — now his wife — in an Atlantic City elevator last February. By 2:30pm, Ray Rice had been suspended indefinitely by the NFL and cut by the Ravens.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Rice for two games following revelations of the incident, but because Palmer did not press charges, Goodell only suspended Rice for two games. But the story took on a new life this morning, following the release of the video by TMZ Sports. The NFL says it did not see the video until today. The cable news networks have been covering the story extensively, and increased their coverage following news of Rice’s indefinite suspension and termination by the Ravens.
