On the NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams took note of Dan Rather’s final day: “As you may have heard: there is a changing of the guard taking place just a few blocks away from here tonight. After 24-years in the anchor chair, Dan Rather is signing off one last time, as anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News. And a personal note. Dan’s been a friend for close to twenty years. Professionally, he is a very tough competitor. As is the man who will be taking over that chair, as interim anchor, beginning tomorrow night: Bob Schieffer. And so we wish both of our friends, both proud Texans, only the very best.”
