Rachel Maddow’s Third Podcast Debuts Next Week

By A.J. Katz

Rachel Maddow‘s success on cable television is translating quite well to the podcast world.

Maddow is set to debut her third podcast, Rachel Maddow Presents: Déjà News, on Monday, June 12.

The podcast will be a six episode limited series in which Maddow and longtime Rachel Maddow Show producer Isaac-Davy Aronson explore news stories from the past that have notable parallels with the present.

Per MSNBC, “Maddow will bring her signature, monologue-style storytelling to introduce each episode as she sets the stage for Aronson to dive deep into the past. Aronson will lead listeners on a journey through history, unfolding stories and events from our past that have unusual parallels to our present, and together, he and Maddow will consider the ways in which history repeats itself and allows us to look at some of today’s most perplexing topics through a clearer, more rational lens.”

New episodes of Déjà News will be released weekly on Mondays.

Maddow, who still hosts MSNBC’s 9 p.m. hour on Mondays and remains involved with the network’s live coverage of major political events, stepped back from her nightly show a year ago to focus on other creative endeavors at NBCUniversal.

The change is part of a deal she signed with NBCUniversal in 2021, which allows her to develop podcasts, films, and other content for NBCU’s various brands.

Maddow’s first podcast is Rachel Maddow Presents: Bag Man, about the political bribery scandal involving Vice President Spiro Agnew. Bag Man won a Peabody for Best Radio/Podcast in 2018, and was nominated for a DuPont Columbia Award in 2020. It spurred a best-selling book and is the basis of an upcoming movie directed by Ben Stiller.

Her second podcast, Rachel Maddow Presents: Ultra, launched in October 2022. It examines a plot to undermine American democracy and spread Nazi propaganda 80 years ago. Ultra recently won the Hillman Prize for Broadcast Journalism, and has been picked up by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin for a potential feature film adaptation.

The Hollywood Reporter was first with the news.
