Q3 Cable: Fox & Friends Beats Some Broadcast Competition

By Chris Ariens

Fox & Friends continues to be the number one cable news morning show but, according to Nielsen, it also beats The Early Show in some markets. F&F averaged 868,000 total viewers last quarter, 325,000 in A25-54. In three of the top 15 markets the FNC show draws more total viewers than CBS’ The Early Show.

In Atlanta, F&F averaged 26,000 viewers, to CBS’ 9,000. In Detroit, F&F averaged 19,000 viewers, while CBS brought in 8,000 and in Phoenix, F&F averaged 22,000, while Early brought in 17,000.

It should be noted that Detroit’s CBS affiliate, WWJ, does not have a local news department. And Atlanta’s CBS affiliate on channel 46 has long been in fourth place. Both markets’ CBS affiliates were affected by the great affiliation switch of 1994.
