Primetime Special On AIDS In Black America Includes Segment By Peter Jennings

ABC’s upcoming primetime special on AIDS in Black America is notable for a couple of reasons. It is, according to ABC, the “first national network television news documentary on the AIDS epidemic among African Americans.” And it is one of the last primetime specials that Peter Jennings had a hand in developing.

The late anchor “played a significant role in conceptualizing the program,” according to today’s press release. Shortly before his cancer diagnosis, he conducted a group interview with HIV positive African American men in Atlanta.

That interview is included in “Out of Control: AIDS in Black America.” Hosted by Terry Moran, it will air August 24 at 10pm. Elizabeth Arledge is the producer, Kayce Freed Jennings is the senior producer, and Tom Yellin is the executive producer…
