Post-Katie, The Morning Gap Stays Steady

By Brian

> Update: And on Thursday, the gap between Today and GMA was 1.428 million viewers…

Some observers have speculated that viewers would leave ‘Today’ along with Katie Couric. But in the first five days post-Katie, that prediction hasn’t panned out.

On Thursday, June 1, the gap between NBC and ABC stood at 1.73 million. On Friday, it was 1.72 million. On Monday, it was about 1.2 million; on Tuesday, it was close to 1.3 million; and on Wednesday, it was around 1.2 million. If Couric’s departure doesn’t close the gap, what will?

In today’s WSJ, Today EP Jim Bell says he isn’t worried: “We have a team and a plan already in place. That doesn’t appear to be the case elsewhere…”
