CNN will have dedicated coverage of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next week. On Sunday from 11am-1pmET Piers Morgan and Brooke Baldwin will anchor the channel’s coverage of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, which will see a flotilla of boats travel down the river.
On Tuesday, June 5 from 9-11amET, CNN will cover the Royal Carriage Procession, which sees the Royals travel from Westminster to Buckingham Palace via horse-drawn carriage.
Becky Anderson, Richard Quest, Zain Verjee and CNN’s Royal Correspondent Max Foster will all contribute to the Jubilee programing.
As we reported earlier, ABC Newssecured the U.S. TV rights for the Jubilee concert, and also has the only U.S. interview with Princes William and Harry in advance of the Jubilee. ABC News broadcasts will originate from London next week.
CNN will also televise four Royal-related documentaries, and will have a digital component, more on those after the jump.
CNN To Provide Global, Multi-Platform Coverage of the Diamond Jubilee
Piers Morgan and Brooke Baldwin Will Host CNN’s Live Coverage
Live from London, CNN will globally televise the spectacular pageantry of the Diamond Jubilee, marking Queen Elizabeth’s 60 year reign of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. CNN’s special live coverage will be anchored by Piers Morgan and Brooke Baldwin, across CNN/U.S. and CNN International. Users can also watch the simulcast live online at CNN.com/live or on the CNN App for iPad and iPhone by authenticating through their cable, satellite or telco provider.
CNN’s live simulcast coverage begins on Sunday, June 3, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (ET) on location at the Tower Bridge for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Hundreds of boats will sail up the River Thames, making it one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river.
On Tuesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (ET), CNN will broadcast the Royal Carriage Procession. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry of Wales will depart the Palace of Westminster for Buckingham Palace, travelling along a processional route by horse-drawn carriage. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh and members of the Royal Family will appear on Buckingham Palace’s balcony, at which point the Royal Air Force will fly over the palace and the Queen’s Royal Guard will deliver a celebratory cascade of rifle fire as a salute.
Additionally, CNN International will feature live programming from location with Becky Anderson, Richard Quest, Zain Verjee and CNN’s Royal Correspondent Max Foster. CNN en Español will provide coverage on Mirador Mundial, which broadcasts Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. (ET).
Leading up to CNN’s live Diamond Jubilee coverage, the network will broadcast four documentaries:
• Kate and Wills: First Anniversary – William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have celebrated one year of married life. On their first official trip abroad as a couple to Canada and the United States last year, she showed she has the same ability to draw the crowds. But it is not just about wearing cowboy hats or mingling with Hollywood A-listers, a 21st century Duchess needs to be clear about who she is and what she cares about. This half-hour program examines how Catherine passed her Royal apprenticeship with success. Kate and Wills: First Anniversary will air on CNN Saturday, May 26 at 2:30 p.m. ET and replay Sunday, June 3 at 8 p.m. (ET).
• The Diamond Queen – Long before Diana and Catherine, there was Elizabeth. This is the story of the young, fresh-faced and glamorous Queen of the 1950s and how she became the great matriarch. As she began a life of duty and service, she was also the ruler of the most revered monarchy in the world and helped build the new Commonwealth with a constituency of 2 billion people. In her Diamond Jubilee year, the Queen is still working and heading up a household which is enjoying an upsurge in popularity. The Diamond Queen will air on CNN Saturday, June 2 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
• CNN Presents: The Women Who Would Be Queen – CNN takes a look at the life of Catherine Middleton, the woman who will someday become Queen of the United Kingdom. The hour-long documentary also explores the ways in which the future King and Queen have honored the life and legacy of Diana. Featured in the documentary are Jules Knight, close friend of the couple from the origins of their fairytale romance during their university days at St. Andrews, and Arthur Edwards, longtime royal photographer, who has chronicled the princes’ entire lives during his 30-year career at England’s The Sun newspaper. CNN Presents: The Women Who Would be Queen is reported by anchor and special correspondent Soledad O’Brien. The documentary will air on CNN Saturday, June 2 at 8 p.m. ET.
• Harry: The Fighter Prince – He is the soldier Prince, happiest in combat uniform. In this documentary, Prince Harry reveals to CNN’s Royal Correspondent, Max Foster, “There’s something about me, I do enjoy running down a ditch full of mud. It’s the way I am. I love it.” With a glint in his eye and a healthy streak of irreverence, the young prince is third in line to the British throne, and has always been one of the lads. As his grandmother celebrates sixty years on the throne, Prince Harry has been given duties away from the battlefield. He was sent on a Royal tour of the Caribbean – a trip which senior members at Buckingham Palace judged as a great success. Harry: The Fighter Prince will air on CNN on Sunday, June 3 at 8:30 p.m. (ET).
