Oscars Broadcast Up From Last Year

By Chris Ariens

According to Nielsen metered market data, the Oscar telecast averaged a 25.5 household rating and 38 share from 8:30 to 11:24 p.m. last night. That’s up a point over last year, when the show averaged a 24.5/37.

ABC’s Red Carpet special hosted by “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts (who didn’t get any ashes poured on her) topped the competition, including “60 Minutes” which counter-programmed with a special “Going to Extremes,” three recent stories about extreme sports.

At 7pm, “Oscars Red Carpet Live” earned a 5.5 rating vs. a 1.3 for “60 Minutes” and a 1.1 for “Dateline NBC.” ABC’s audience grew at 8pm with the final half hour of the Red Carpet special earning an 8.1 rating.
