Oprah Winfrey Named Special Contributor to 60 Minutes

Oprah Winfrey will become a special contributor to 60 Minutes beginning this fall as the show begins its 50th season.

“I’ve been a big admirer of 60 Minutes since my days as a young reporter,” said Winfrey. “At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.”

“There is only one Oprah Winfrey,” added 60 Minutes EP Jeff Fager. “She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes.”

“She has said all the time she doesn’t miss the day-to-day of the show,” said Gayle King on CBS This Morning. “But what she does miss is storytelling, connecting to particular women and being able to interact with them.”

“It’s been very hard to keep secret!” said an excited King, who has known Winfrey since they were local TV news reporters in Baltimore more than 30 years ago.
