Oprah Opens up on OWN: ‘The Most Painful Thing for Me Was to Have to Let People Go.’

As “Good Morning America” and the “Today” show each reached into their bag of tricks to bring in viewers, the biggest media news of the morning came on “CBS This Morning” during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey opened up with Charlie Rose and Gayle King about the struggles of her network OWN.

“Had I known it was this difficult, I might have done something else,” said Winfrey about her role in creating OWN, where she is CEO.

Winfrey cut off her BFF Gayle at one point, “Would you let me answer the question?!” as she explained, “I didn’t think it was going to be easy. But if I knew then, what I know now I would have made some different choices.”

“Launching when we we really weren’t ready to launch,” was the biggest mistake, Winfrey conceded, adding, “the most painful thing for me was to have to let people go.” OWN recently laid off 30 employees.
