Oops, Did MSNBC Just Scoop NBC?

By Chris Ariens

On July 21, Jay Barbree celebrated 50 years with NBC News. The net’s space correspondent has covered every NASA mission, going back to the Mercury program. And he’s written a book about his experiences; the news of which, was supposed to be held for three more weeks.

This morning while he reported on the latest shuttle mission, MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer mentioned that her producer told her Barbree had written a new book. Barbree, holding up a copy, said “I’ll give you a sneak preview, it’s published by The Smithsonian but we can’t talk about it until Sept. 3 because we’re going to kick it off on the Today show.” Brewer told Barbree, “now I’m in trouble, I can just hear the phone ringing back there.” Barbree promised to be a guest on MSNBC on Sept. 4.

> Update: It’s actually only 49 years for Barbree at NBC. He began July 21, 1958.
