Network makeup artists can do a lot, but Meredith Vieira clearly brought more than they could handle at NBC’s Today, arriving for her guest-hosting gig with a hard-to-hide black eye. “If you’re going to laugh, I’m not going to tell you [how I got it],” she told Hoda Kotb.
Vieira says upon returning home from a long flight, she stumbled toward the bathroom in the dark, tripped over her suitcase and hit her head on a table. “If it had been a little bit lower, something bad could have happened,” she said. Doctors performed a CAT scan that found no problems, though Vieira says she’s still got a headache.
Vieira’s husband, Richard Cohen, teased her about the accident on his blog:
“I am the one in my house who has multiple sclerosis. I am the only one who is legally blind…Yet I survive because I have learned self-preservation. I am married to a woman who has not.
“Meredith is a klutz, like a drunken sailor on a bender who collides with stationary objects and is a danger to herself…It may be time to hire a sitter to protect the poor, dottering dear from herself, especially after dark.”
