ABC News has named Julia Redpath executive producer for This Week with George Stephanopoulos, effective Sept. 11.
Redpath takes over for This Week ep Jonathan Greenberger, who’s also ABC News’ vp and Washington bureau chief.
She comes to ABC News from NPR, where she spent a whopping 26 years covering politics and major news events around the world.
Redpath most recently recently served as deputy managing editor at NPR, she led specials and live events for the network, including live coverage of the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings, the 2016 presidential election, from the primaries to Election Night, and the Trump administration.
Back on Feb. 1, we just so happened to be surfing LinkedIn when we spotted a job posting for “Executive Producer, This Week.” We were able to hop on the phone with Greenberger to find out the deal in regard to this job opening; and more importantly, find out if he was leaving ABC.
Not so fast. He told us that he’d just be dialing it back a bit.
“After the midterms were over, I felt the time was right to finally make that change,” Greenberger told us by phone. “So I discussed it with James [Goldston] and with George [Stephanopoulos], who have both been very gracious.”
He told us at the time that potential candidates for the opening weren’t being limited to ABC Newsers. The search was still in early days (based on the fact that this announcement was made on Sept. 4, that was most definitely true), and that he was working with both ABC News president James Goldston and ABC News’ svp of talent Barbara Fedida to find his successor on the Sunday show.

Julia joins us from NPR, where she spent 26 years covering politics and major news events around the world. During her impressive tenure she covered six presidential elections, traveled through Europe and the Middle East covering global affairs and produced in-depth reporting for the award-winning news program All Things Considered.
Julia produced coverage of a wide-range of historic events, from the impeachment of President Bill Clinton and the 2008 financial collapse to the death of Pope John Paul II, as well as newsmaking interviews with Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama.
She’s produced fascinating documentaries, including one following a former translator for Saddam Hussein that delivered a remarkable and unprecedented look inside his regime.
Most recently as Deputy Managing Editor at NPR, she led specials and live events for the network, including live coverage of the Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings, every facet of the 2016 election, from the primaries to Election Night, and the Trump administration.
Julia brings a tremendous amount of journalistic experience to the role and will be leading our Sunday morning public affairs program at a critical time in politics.
