November Ratings: The Morning Cable Picture

For the first time since December 2004, CNN’s American Morning has dropped from 2nd place to 3rd place among the morning cable news shows. Headline News’ recently renamed Morning Express with Robin Meade edged out American Morning (130,000 vs. 121,000) in A25-54 viewers (Live only data). CNN brought in a new anchor team for American Morning in April: Kiran Chetry from FNC and John Roberts late of CBS News. That show is down 17% in total viewers, and down 41% in A25-54, year-over-year.

Fox & Friends continues as the #1 morning show with 310,000 A25-54 viewers. F&F is up 19% in total viewers but down 6% in A25-54, year-over-year.

And on the eve of Don Imusreturn to radio and TV (via RFDtv), his old slot on MSNBC, occupied by Morning Joe, is down 34% in total viewers and down 49% in A25-54 demo, also year-over-year.

Important to note, viewing levels were up in Nov. 2006 because of the mid-term elections.
