November 2016 Ratings: Fox News Has Most-Watched Month Since 2012

Fox News Channel was the most-watched basic cable channel in prime time in November. The month also gave Fox its most-watched months since the last presidential election in 2012.

Fox News beat CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers across all dayparts. Additionally, FNC beat CNN in adults 25-54 after finishing second last month. Fox News has defeated every basic cable network for 14 straight weeks in total viewers, a network record.

The ratings for November, 2016 (Nielsen Live + Same Day data):

  • Prime time (Mon-Sun): 3,283,000 total viewers / 778,000 A25-54
  • Total Day (Mon-Sun): 1,966,000 total viewers / 466,000 A25-54

The November 2016 numbers are rather large, and in addition to November 2015, they compare favorably with November 2012: +28 percent in total prime time viewers, +35 percent in total day viewers, +36 percent in the prime time demo and +32 percent in total day viewers from the demo.

The O’Reilly Factor marked 192 months as the No. 1 cable news program across the board with an average of 4.1 million total viewers and 816,000 from the A25-54 demo.

It was a good month for Megyn Kelly. Her new book hit No. 1 and The Kelly File posted its most-watched month since its launch in total viewers and in A25-54 (3.4 million / 754,000).

Hannity delivered its most-watched month since October 2013 when the show moved to the 10 p.m. ET hour, averaging almost 3.3 million total viewers. The program finished No. 2 in the demo, second only to O’Reilly across cable news.

Special Report with Bret Baier had its most-watched month in series history, averaging 3.2 million viewers in the 6 p.m. hour.

In addition, Tucker Carlson Tonight, which premiered strong on Nov. 14, posted double-digit percent increases in total viewers (+40 percent) and the 25-54 demo (+71 percent) from November 2015. Carlson is averaging 2.9 million viewers to-date.

The Five earned its most-watched month since its launch, averaging 3.2 million viewers.

Fox Business hit some records of its own. The network delivered its most-watched month ever for both business day and total day. FBN topped CNBC in business day viewers and total day viewers for the first time ever.
