No Same-Sex Couples Advance in ‘Today’ Wedding Contest

Despite NBC’s decision to allow same-sex couples to apply for its “Modern Love” wedding contest, there were none among the four finalists revealed this morning on the “Today” show.

When the call for entries opened earlier this summer, the “Today” show faced pressure from GLAAD after the network said couples needed to be eligible for marriage in the state of New York to enter. Executive producer Jim Bell met with GLAAD to discuss the contest and its rules and, following that meeting, “Today” extended the contest deadline and announced that it would allow same-sex couples to apply.

Viewers can now vote for their couple of choice at the “Today” website or on Facebook. The winner will be married on-air October 6th.
