NK Nuke Test: Notes

By Brian

> Update: 11:19am: “Notice that FNC doesn’t have a reporter in the region,” an e-mailer says. “A major Asian story and they don’t send a reporter? What’s up with that?”

North Korean nuclear test coverage notes:

FNC’s Janice Dean broke in at 10:48pm. She anchored from NYC, with Megyn Kendall contributing frequently from DC. Correspondents like Eric Shawn and Bret Baier reported by phone. FNC went to tape at 2am.

CNN’s Carol Lin broke in at 10:52pm. She anchored breaking news coverage until midnight, when CNN/U.S. started simulcasting CNN International. CNNI is still airing as of 2:20am. CNN had several correspondents in Asia on-camera, including Dan Simon, Sohn Jie-Ae and Atika Shubert. In the U.S., Zain Verjee, Jamie McIntyre, State Dept. producer Elise Labott, and former CNNer Mike Chinoy contributed phoners.

MSNBC waited until 11pm to air a short update by Bill Fitzgerald, then returned to a taped edition of “Lockup” for three minutes until it started rolling coverage at 11:04pm. This viewer says many major NBC Newsers have contributed to the coverage. MSNBC returned to regularly scheduled programming at 2am.
