Nir Rosen to Anderson Cooper: ‘There’s no defense for what I did’

By Molly Stark Dean

CNN’s Anderson Cooper spoke to freelance journalist Nir Rosen last night about Rosen’s inappropriate tweets concerning the sexual assault of CBS News correspondent Lara Logan. During the inappropriate Tweet stream Tuesday night, Rosen also took some shots at Cooper, Tweeting, “it would be funny if it happened to Anderson.”

“I’m assuming you mean a sexual assault,” Cooper said to Rosen, “because I had already been roughed up.” Rosen admitted that he did not read the CBS article that he tweeted — and that if he had read that Logan was the victim of sexual assault he would have been more sensitive.

“There’s no defense here,” the freelance journalist told Cooper, “I just figured that this was going to get more attention and take the attention away from the event on the ground and from other people that were attacked, because they weren’t white. They weren’t celebrities.”

The freelance journalist writes about current and foreign affairs in the Middle Eastern region. He resigned yesterday from his post as fellow at New York University’s Center on Law and Security. As for Logan, she was released from the hospital and received a private phone call from Pres. Barack Obama yesterday.
