He spends most of his time in Miami, so on Saturday, during the blizzard of 2016, already in New York to anchor NBC Nightly News, José Díaz-Balart Instagrammed his way around Rockefeller Center. “Not a lot of Miami boys have dealt with this kind of thing,” Díaz-Balart said on MSNBC.

Then his flight, which was set to leave Sunday, didn’t. He didn’t make it out until this afternoon.

But in between, the Telemundo, NBC News and MSNBC anchor gave Saturday’s edition of NBC Nightly News its best performance in almost 2 years. The 8.5 million total viewer draw was Nightly’s best weekend delivery since the first Sunday of the Sochi Olympics, on Feb. 15, 2014.

Nightly News Saturday outperformed ABC’s World News Tonight by 2.134 million viewers, and the CBS Evening News by 3.814 million viewers; both gaps were the biggest since Feb. 22, 2014, the final Sunday of Sochi.
