Nightline Reports Bonds HR Record “Seconds” After Hit

By Chris Ariens

An ABC emailer writes, “ABC News Nightline reported Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home run just seconds after it happened.” In the live broadcast in the eastern time zone, Nightline anchor Martin Bashir “reported Bonds home run while Bonds was still rounding the bases.” After a commercial break, Nightline then aired video of the home run hit with Bonds crossing home plate”, then went into a story about the ambivalence some fans feel about Bonds breaking the record.

The emailer writes, “With the advantage of watching all other networks at the same time, it was clear that Nightline was the first broadcast to report the record, beaten only by ESPN’s live coverage of the game.”
