‘New Day’ Gives CNN Best Mornings in Five Years

CNN’s morning show “New Day” is in a celebratory mood. “New Day” will top MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” for the third-straight quarter in both the key demo and total viewers when final Q1 ratings are released tomorrow.

In the 6-9amET timeslot, CNN is having its best quarterly performance since Q4 of 2009 and has its largest quarterly share of the cable news morning audience in the the demo in over six years.

“We’ve been consistently building our audience because we keep a laser focus on the biggest and most important stories of the day, and have CNN’s resources to cover them,” CNN VP of Morning Programming Jim Murphy told TVNewser. “We’ve become the morning leader on hard news and breaking news and the audience is responding.”

Despite the recent success of “New Day,” it should be noted that FNC’s “Fox &a Friends” has been the No. 1 morning cable news show for 14 consecutive years. In fact, in 2014 “Fox & Friends” averaged more total viewers than “Morning Joe” and “New Day” combined.
