Networks Covering Mass Shooting in Germany

The cable networks have broken away from politics to cover a mass shooting in Munich, with Fox News initially reporting up to 10 people shot. Some reports put the number even higher.

CNN has aired cell phone video that shows people–including children–running from the mall. The network reports several people dead. Lynn Stein, a witness, told CNN she heard “several shots, maybe six or seven.”

NBC News produced special reports anchored by Lester Holt at 12:53 p.m. and 2 p.m. ET.

The incident, at a shopping mall, forced police in the German city to evacuate the immediate area and ask residents to shelter inside their homes:

According to some reports, there is a second incident underway at a metro station in Munich, though that has neither been confirmed nor connected to the shooting at the shopping center. The city has been on edge since an axe attack on a train earlier this week.

The Guardian quotes police saying “we believe there was more than one perpetrator. The first reports came at 6 pm, the shooting apparently began at a McDonald’s in the shopping centre. There are still people in the shopping centre. We are trying to get the people out and take care of them.”
