“We have breaking news. We are not going to take this commercial break. James Comey is resigning. Is that what you’re telling me?” said Eric Bolling on Fox News at 5:45. CNN’s Jeff Zeleny reported the news at 5:46. Chuck Todd reported the news at 5:57 on MSNBC.
ABC’s David Muir and CBS’s Scott Pelley broke in at 5:47 p.m. to report the news. NBC’s Lester Holt anchored a special report at 6 p.m. ET.
