Another negative Today item in Page Six:

“Network sharks smell blood in the water with the recent slide of the Today show in the ratings.” The Post says “its lead over Good Morning America is shrinking. Only 570,000 viewers separated the two programs the week of March 19, and this week’s overnight numbers have been even closer. Meanwhile, CBS’ “Early Show” is gaining even more, although it’s still a distant third with 2.66 million viewers.”

Steve Friedman is quoted: “Last year that week [in March], Today led GMA by a million. The Today show is losing audience. I’ve never seen a drop like this. We [CBS] were 3.3 million behind last year. Now we’re 2.6 million behind. We’ve picked up 700,000.”

Page Six says The Washington Post “is said to be preparing a story that will attribute some of the Today erosion to the loss of Katie Couric and her replacement by Meredith Vieira…”
