Nets Take Correspondents Away From State

By Brian

Television news isn’t taking the State Department so seriously anymore, the Washingtonian notices. ABC’s Jonathan Karl, “who had been covering the State Department, has moved to national security, principally covering the Pentagon. ABC has no plans to replace him at State.”

Earlier this year, CNN moved Andrea Koppel from State to Capitol Hill, and she wasn’t replaced, either. “We can cover it without a full-time correspondent,” bureau chief David Bohrman says.

CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox rely on producers to cover the daily briefings. Harry Jaffe quotes a CNN source: We were the last. The era is over, as far as TV goes.”
