NBC: No, David Gregory Isn’t Going Anywhere

By Alex Weprin

A recent report in News Corp’s iPad newspaper The Daily suggested that David Gregory would soon be out of the job at “Meet the Press.” To make it extra classy, The Daily said that former “Meet the Press” moderator Tim Russert was “spinning in his grave” because of Gregory’s leadership.

NBC is pushing back hard against the report, telling The Washington Post:  “The rumors recklessly reported by The Daily are categorically untrue.”

The crux of the rumor is that “MTP” has suffered from declining ratings, while its competitors “Face the Nation” on CBS and ABC’s “This Week” make gains on Sundays. Sundays have been more competitive in recent months, but unlike “Today” and the other morning shows, “Meet the Press” and the Sunday shows are not huge profit centers for the news divisions, so forced change is less imminent when ratings slip.
