NBC News Is Expanding Its Daily News Program on Snapchat to Instagram

NBC News – perhaps more so than the other broadcast networks – has been making an aggressive push to attract younger news consumers over the past couple years. For instance, it is planning to launch an OTT streaming news service in the near future, and at present, it’s targeting millennials and Gen-Zers through its daily news show on Snapchat, Stay Tuned.

Stay Tuned – which NBC launched in July 2017 – seems to be proving successful for NBC News because the network is expanding the daily news show for Snapchat to Instagram and YouTube. The show will air twice daily on Instagram Stories shortly after they post to Snapchat.

Axios was first to report.

“Our plan is to build on this strong foundation and extend the brand to new platforms and audiences, beginning with Instagram, with others to follow soon,” Stay Tuned ep Andrew Springer told TVNewser.

Wouldn’t NBC News have to ask Snapchat for permission to expand Stay Tuned elsewhere? After all, it was launched as a news show exclusively for Snapchat’s Discover platform 13 months ago. Well, according to Axios, NBC News was waiting until its exclusivity contract expired with Snapchat this year before taking the program to other platforms.

According to NBC News, Stay Tuned currently boasts 35 million unique monthly viewers, 75 percent of audience under 25 years old, and over 1 billion views over more than 600 episodes.
