NBC News has hired former Associated Press national security reporter Ken Dilanian to join its Investigative Unit. TVNewser has obtained a memo that NBC News Investigative Unit senior EP Ken Dilanian sent his staff.
I’m really pleased to announce that NBC News has hired Ken Dilanian, the Associated Press lead national security reporter, as part of a multi-stage plan to enhance the network’s reporting on the intelligence community and national security.
Dilanian is one of the nation’s foremost national security reporters. At the AP he covers all 17 federal agencies overseen by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. When he joins the NBC Investigative Unit in January he will be based in Washington where he will work off-camera to buttress our correspondents and to develop longer term investigative and enterprise reports.
AdvertisementDilanian’s recent enterprise reports include a several on the devastating October bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan. Those reports outlined what US analysts knew in advance, how a battlefield awareness intelligence system was inoperable during the attack, and a series of preventable errors that led to the attack.
Prior to joining the AP, Dilanian covered the intelligence community for the Los Angeles Times and had covered the State Department for USA Today. The winner of numerous national journalism awards, Dilanian is a graduate of Williams College.
He joins Robert Windrem, who has covered the national security beat for NBC News for more than two decades.
