NBC News has been on a hiring spree recently—and the news organization is continuing that effort by announcing new appointments to its business, technology and innovation unit.
Brian Cheung joins as a Business & Data Reporter, where his reporting will help audiences better understand the current state of the American economy—as it emerges from a global pandemic and as the midterms approach. Prior to this appointment, he was a writer and an on-air reporter at Yahoo Finance, covering the Fed, economics and banking. Cheung starts his duties the week of September 19.
J.J. McCorvey joins the team as an Atlanta-based Digital Business Reporter, focusing on regional and national economic trends. He recently covered personal finance and the economy for the Wall Street Journal.
Laura Wides-Muñoz joins as the Senior Tech Investigations Editor. Previously, she served as the Los Angeles Times’ Deputy Washington Bureau chief. She’s also worked for ABC News in Washington, D.C., as the Executive Editor for News Practices at Fusion, where she was the VP of Special Projects and Editorial Strategy.
Candace Kuo returns to NBC News as a Senior Producer for the unit. In this role, she will work with the team to provide content across all of NBC News’ video platforms. This is a homecoming for Kuo, who had previously worked as a Today producer for over a decade. Most recently, she was a senior producer for CBS Mornings.
McCorvey, Wides-Muñoz, and Kuo will start the week of September 6.
