NBC Nightly News Claims Interview With VP Pence Was ‘Exclusive.’ It Wasn’t

By A.J. Katz

NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt and CBS This Morning co-anchor Norah O’Donnell held separate, live interviews with Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday morning in the White House. ABC’s George Stephanopoulos interviewed VP Pence that morning from Good Morning America’s D.C. studio. The sit-downs were held the morning after Pres. Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress.

Stephanopoulos briefly sat down with VP Pence in the studio beginning at 7:09 a.m. Holt interviewed Pence in the White House, and it aired live on Today beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET. O’Donnell spoke with Pence inside the White House after, and her interview aired live on CBS This Morning beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The NBC and CBS interviews each lasted longer than the ABC sit-down.

NBC News aired parts of Holt’s interview with Pence during last night’s edition of NBC Nightly News. Nightly News included a Today Show graphic in the upper right hand corner with the word “Exclusive.” While Today Show did not include that “Exclusive” bug when it originally aired the interview live, Holt’s interview with the VP still wasn’t exclusive, not even to the morning shows.
