NBC News Adds to Miami Bureau

By A.J. Katz

Maya Rodriguez is leaving Denver’s KUSA and heading to South Florida to report for NBC News.

From NBC’s Miami bureau Rodriguez will cover the southern U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean across all platforms for NBC News and for MSNBC. This is a homecoming of sorts for Rodriguez, who holds a communications degree from Florida International University.

“Fluent in both Spanish and French, she filed from Panama on a Colorado company’s expansion of the Panama Canal and reported across Europe for pieces on the migrant crisis,” writes David Verdi, svp of worldwide newsgathering for NBC News, in a note to staff.

Here’s Verdi’s note:

All,

I am pleased to announce that Maya Rodriguez has joined NBC News as a correspondent. She is based in our Miami Bureau, reporting across all platforms of NBC News and MSNBC.

Maya comes to us from KUSA, our NBC affiliate in Denver, where she delivered outstanding international reporting. Fluent in both Spanish and French, she filed from Panama on a Colorado company’s expansion of the Panama Canal and reported across Europe for pieces on the migrant crisis. Prior to KUSA, she worked for the CBS Station in New Orleans where she earned a reputation as a strong, aggressive reporter. She has also worked in Florida and Texas and knows what it takes to do a standup in a hurricane.

Maya holds a communications degree from Florida International University and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Please join me in welcoming Maya.

David
