NBC, CBS Win duPont -Columbia U. Awards

Today comes word of the 2008 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award winners in broadcast journalism, with NBC News and CBS News garnering honors.

NBC earned two nods: one, to Dateline for The Education of Ms. Groves, reported by Hoda Kotb, on a Teach for America educator; the other, to MSNBC and Richard Engel for a long-form Iraq war report, War Zone Diary.

CBS was honored for 60 Minutes’ The Mother of All Heists, an investigative report by Steve Kroft, about high-level corruption in the Iraqi Defense Ministry.

Ten other awards go to NPR, HBO, and various local television and radio stations; winners will receive their duPont silver batons on Jan. 16, 2008. Also planned: a January 28, 2008 PBS documentary featuring the honorees’ work, Telling the Truth: The Best in Broadcast Journalism.
