After a day of conflicting messaging from the White House about the fate of Pres. Trump’s National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn has resigned.
CNN’s Don Lemon was first to report the news on cable at 10:55 p.m. ET. CNN’s Gloria Borger and Sara Murray were the first to break the story.
“The acting National Security Adviser is Gen. Keith Kellogg who was the chief of staff. Michael Flynn has resigned,” reported NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC’s 11th Hour with Brian WIlilams at 11:03 p.m. Fox News’s Kelly Wright broke in to the O’Reilly Factor at 11:06 p.m. with John Roberts reporting.
Late this afternoon Flynn apologized to Vice President Pence for misleading him about his communications with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. before Trump was sworn in. Around that same time, Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki Flynn had “the full confidence of the president.” An hour later, press secretary Sean Spicer said the president was still “evaluating the situation.”
