MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Is SNL Cold Open in Panned Trump Show

By Chris Ariens

Friday’s Democratic Forum became fodder for Saturday Night Live. “In case you’re wondering what a forum is it’s a debate no one watches,” said Cecily Strong playing MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow who hosted the Friday event. It also inspired SNL to bring back fan favorite Larry David playing Bernie Sanders.

David also played himslef in the monologue calling host Donald Trump a racist, a challenge a hispanic group gave to anyone in the audience who would interrupt the show by calling out the GOP frontrunner for his comments on illegal immigrants.

Washington Post TV critic Hank Stuever was among those panning the Trump-hosted show calling it “an anemic and halfhearted dud.”

A typically boastful Trump tempered his own expectations during an interview with Bill O’Reilly Friday: “I think some of it is going to be really great,” he said.

We’ll get the ratings and social chatter data for the show later this morning.
