MSNBC’s Ed Schultz on the Move

As Newscast Studio noticed, MSNBC’s “The Ed Show,” hosted by Ed Schultz, is no longer originating from the primary MSNBC set, but has moved upstairs to a smaller, single-camera studio known as the “news nook.”

Such changes can be a way to cut costs. But MSNBC insiders tell TVNewser the move was not a money-saving one. In fact, producing the show from the nook might even cost a little more.

Schultz regularly broadcasts his show from Minneapolis with a similar setup and the network felt Schultz, who also hosts a daily radio show, seemed more comfortable in that type of an arrangement. We hear MSNBC president Phil Griffin made the final call.

Schultz’s show has been produced in the main studio, allowing for more movement with multiple cameras, but that became an issue as be began appearing behind Brian Williams during “Nightly News” which is produced in an adjacent, windowed studio.
