MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer Pregnant

By Alex Weprin

MSNBC anchor Contessa Brewer is expecting her first child. Brewer formally announced the news with  a post on her Facebook page:

Yes! It’s true! I’m expecting a baby! Martin Bashir decided it was at least as big a deal as the royal wedding and made the announcement for me at the end of my show today! I’ve never been so surprised on television. But of course, I’m delighted to share my happy news!

As Brewer mentions in the post, news of her pregnancy came out toward the end of the 12 PM hour, which she was anchoring.

Brewer was talking to Martin Bashir about the Royal Wedding, when the following exchange occurred:

Update: Now with Video!

Bashir: There is one thing you missed. People are talking about this as being the event of the decade.

Brewer: right.

Bashir: The real event of the decade concerns you.

Brewer: it does?

Bashir: Because somebody told me that you’re expecting your first child.

Brewer: Wow! and we’re just putting it out there.

Bashir: Is that true? Congratulations.

Brewer: It is true.

Bashir: That’s the event.

Brewer: Wow. Martin Bashir, letting it out there for the whole world to know. Thank you so much.

Bashir: We’re all delighted for you.

Brewer: Thank you.

Bashir: How many months pregnant are you?

Brewer: Almost four.

Bashir: You’ll be working until ten seconds before you give birth.

Brewer: Absolutely. and then ten seconds after that.

The Brewer news comes just a day after another TV news personality gave birth: Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly.
