MSNBC, ABC News Take Home NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) handed out the 2015 Salute to Excellence Awards on Aug. 8 during NABJ’s 40th Annual Convention and Career Fair in Minneapolis. The event is billed as the largest gathering of minority journalists in the country and handed out multiple awards in five categories: newspaper, magazine, radio, television and digital media.

MSNBC picked up three digital media awards, including Trymaine Lee’s report on Ferguson protesters collecting signatures to keep police Chief Thomas Jackson. MSNBC also won Online Project: News and Online Project: Feature awards for continued Ferguson coverage.

ABC News won three awards in the TV category, with its entire staff picking up an honor for Spot News regarding the decision in Ferguson. World News picked up the award for Short Form TV Feature for the Shades of Beauty, in which Deborah Roberts traveled to a N.J. elementary school to find out how young girls interpret beauty. This Week with George Stephanopoulos picked up the Public Affairs program honor for its Special Edition: State of Emergency in Ferguson, MO.

CBS Evening News picked up the General Assignment: Short Form award, while NBC Nightly News Weekend Edition took home the Long Form category. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley took home the International award for The War Against Ebola. ESPN and Al Jazeera America won two awards each.
