NBC averaged 6.3 million viewers on Meredith Vieira‘s first week of Today. “Excluding Katie Couric’s final week, and the Torino Winter Games, this was Today’s best week in total viewer delivery since December 5, 2005,” NBC says.
The gap is wide: 1,590,000 total viewers (and 790,000 25-54 demo viewers) separated Today and GMA for the week.
But the ratings spike on Vieira’s premiere day didn’t last. Today delivered a 5.4 household rating on Wednesday, but dropped to a 5.0 on Thursday and a 4.7 on Friday.
For the week of Sept. 11:
Total viewers: NBC: 6,320,000 / ABC: 4,730,000 / CBS: 2,800,000
Households: NBC: 4.9/17 / ABC: 3.6/13 / CBS: 2.2/8
25-54 demo: NBC: 2,970,000 / ABC: 2,180,000 / CBS: 1,090,000
