Morning Show Ratings: Week of October 24

By A.J. Katz

morning-tv-tvnewser_2016On the final week of October 2016, Good Morning America remained the top morning news show in total viewers, while Today stayed at No. 1 in the key news demo.

Season to date, GMA leads Today by +163,000 total viewers to take the top spot at this point of the season for the 5th year in a row. That said, GMA was -8 percent in total viewers and -9 percent in A25-54 from the same week in 2015 (week of Oct. 26).

Today experienced declines in total viewers (-3 percent) and A25-54 (-4 percent) from the same week last year.

The week of Oct. 26, 2015 included the Halloween episode for both GMA and Today (Fri, Oct. 30). The Halloween episode for 2016 aired yesterday. It’s quite possible that this may explain a poor year-over-year weekly ratings trend for both for ABC and NBC.

CBS, on the other hand, continues to rise in the mornings. CTM delivered year-over-year gains both in total viewers (+5 percent) and in the key news demo (+10 percent).

The averages for the week of Oct. 24:

  • Total Viewers: ABC:   4.476 M / NBC:  4.262 M / CBS: 3.527 M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 1.522 M / NBC:  1.678 M / CBS:   1.070 M
