Morning Show Ratings: Week of May 1

morning-tv-tvnewser_2016The morning shows are struggling relative to 2016, though one trend remains the same in 2017: Good Morning America is No. 1 in total viewers, while Today takes top honors in the A25-54 category.

ABC’s morning show was -10 percent in total viewers and -16 percent in the news demo versus the comparable week in 2016. That said, the program delivered its most-watched telecast in 7 weeks on Monday, May 1, and has the distinction of being the No. 1 morning newscast in total viewers at this point of the season for the 5th year in a row.

Today was -11 percent in total viewers and -10 percent in the news demo relative to the comparable week in 2016. Nevertheless, NBC’s cash cow won the demo by a wide margin this past week, and has been the morning show of choice among the A25-54 set for 20 straight months and 71 consecutive weeks, its best streak in more than four years.

CBS This Morning experienced the least-severe year-over-year decline among total viewers (-5 percent), but was -11 percent from last year in the news demo.

The numbers for the week of May 1, 2017:

  • Total Viewers: ABC:   4.426 M / NBC:  4.237 M / CBS:  3.628 M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC:  1.376 M / NBC:  1.596 M / CBS:   1.001 M
