Morning Show Ratings: Week of Jan. 28

By A.J. Katz

The ABC and NBC network morning shows posted year-over-year total audience growth this past week vs. the comparable week a year ago.

ABC’s Good Morning America maintained its place as the No. 1 morning show in total viewers, and by averaging nearly 4.5 million total viewers, posted its largest weekly audience since the week of March 5, 2018.

Season to date, GMA is the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers for the 7th straight year after finishing as the No. 1 morning newscast for the last 6 seasons.

Versus the comparable week in 2018, GMA posted +3 percent total viewer growth, but lost steam with younger viewers (-3 percent among A25-54).

NBC’s Today was the top morning show last week in the key A25-54 demo, per usual, and has held the top spot in that demographic for 162 consecutive weeks.

Despite finishing runner up to GMA in total viewers for the week, Today managed to win beat its rival across the board on Tuesday; and as was true with Nightly News, Today delivered its best key demo and total viewer audiences since the Pyeongchang Olympics (Feb. 2018).

Versus the comparable week in 2018, Today posted impressive +5 percent growth in total viewers, and stayed flat among adults 25-54.

CBS This Morning remained stuck in third place, was -4 percent in total viewers and -12 percent in A25-54 viewers vs. the comparable week one year ago.
