NBC didn’t even need to wait for the return of Hoda Kotb to get back to its winning ways in the morning.

After finishing runner up to Good Morning America in the key measurements for back-to-back weeks, Today returning to No. 1 in the key demo, finishing the week of Aug. 26 as the top morning show among adults 25-54.

In addition to winning the A25-54 demo for 190th out of the past 192 weeks, Today also posted an 11-week high in average total audience.

Ironically, GMA also delivered its largest total audience in 11 weeks.

Even though the ABC morning show lost its stranglehold on the A25-54 demo after back-to-back weekly wins, it defeated NBC in total viewers, per usual.

Season to date, GMA is the No. 1 morning newscast in total viewers for the 7th straight year after finishing as the No. 1 morning newscast for the last six seasons.

GMA and Today may be getting most of the attention, but CBS This Morning appears to have actually had the strongest week relative to its 2018 performance. CTM was actually up in the key demo, while GMA was down (-5%), and Today was way down (-16%).

Additionally, compared to the same week in 2018, GMA was -2% in total viewers, Today was -5% in total viewers, while CBS This Morning was -3%.

Due Labor Day Friday (Aug. 30), Today was retitled to “Today Show-TS.”  The telecast is excluded from the weekly averages.  NBC’s weekly averages are based four days (Mon-Thurs).
