The ratings gap between Today, Good Morning America and The Early Show has tightened considerably over the past year, according to just-related February sweeps data.

In Feb. 2006, Today averaged almost 6.3 million viewers, while GMA had 5.23 million and Early had 2.96 million. This year, Today is down 5 percent with 5.98 million viewers, while GMA is up 3 percent with 5.41 million and Early is up 8 percent with 3.2 million.

The result? A 1.06 million viewer gap between Today and GMA shrank to 570,000 viewers between Feb. 2006 and Feb. 2007.

In households, Today had 4.6 rating last month — “its lowest February sweeps number in 12 years (since 4.4 in 1995),” CBS says in a press release.

In the all-important women 25-54 demo, Today had 3.0 rating last month, down from 3.4 last February, a 12 percent drop. GMA is down 4 percent and Early is up 8 percent.
