Morgan Spurlock’s Media Diet

By Alex Weprin

While interviewing CNN “Inside Man” host Morgan Spurlock for our profile last week, we asked him about his media diet.

Spurlock may be producing and starring in a show for CNN, but cable news is not typically where he gets his information from. Rather, his media diet is very fragmented, a familiar story for many news consumers today.

“I read a lot more than I probably watch TV news,” Spurlock said. “I will get up in the morning and watch a little NY1 or CNN in the morning, just to hear what is happening local, and to get a sense of the world, and then I listen to 1010 WINS when I drive in, but then I will read the New York Times, The Huffington Post, Talking Points Memo, to kind of get more of my news.

“All day I get pop up alerts from the AP, Reuters, you name it. Wherever it is, if something pops up I am like, well, I will check it out,” he added.

Spurlock’s “Inside Man” debuts on CNN tonight.
