More NBC News Netcasts On The Way

By Brian

Following up on Monday’s announcement that NBC Nightly News will be available online beginning next week…TVNewser has learned that this broadcast is just the beginning. The Today Show and Meet The Press are coming to MSNBC.com in the not-too-distant future.

Other notes:

> Brian Williams blogs: “This is for all those viewers who have stopped me in airports and politely explained that while they watch whenever they can, their busy lives don’t allow them to see their favorite newscast every night. Soon, there will be no excuse. It’s an idea whose time has come, and we’re all very excited about it.”

> CNET News sees the move as “further evidence that content providers could eventually bypass traditional TV networks in favor of distribution over the Internet.”

> The broadcast begins at 10pm because “they don’t want to piss off west-coast affiliates,” BuzzMachine says. “Still, can’t they all see the absurdity of this, on its face: Old news is not news, it’s just old. Why didn’t they give the affiliates all the right to show the news on their own sites?…”
